Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Sanatio Research, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. These terms apply to all users including those in recovery, partners, and clinicians.

What Sanatio Research Is — and Is Not

Sanatio Research is a free-to-use research library that aggregates peer-reviewed studies on sexual addiction, compulsive sexual behavior, and betrayal trauma, each shown with its published title and the authors' own abstract. It is operated by a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) for informational and educational purposes only.

Sanatio Research is NOT:

• Therapy, counseling, or clinical treatment of any kind
• A substitute for professional mental health care
• A medical device or FDA-regulated product
• A crisis service

Using Sanatio Research does not create a therapist-client, provider-patient, or any other professional relationship between you and the operator or any clinician associated with the platform. Published research describes population-level findings from published studies — they are not assessments of your individual situation.

Use of AI

Sanatio Research does not publish AI-written summaries, takeaways, or interpretations of any study. What you read on a card is the study's published title and the authors' own abstract. AI (Claude, by Anthropic) is used only in the background, to screen incoming studies for topical relevance and assign topic tags, and a licensed clinician reviews what is added to the library. Screening and tagging can still err, so a study's presence, absence, or topic label is not a judgment about its quality or applicability to you. Always review the original research linked with each entry.

No Medical or Clinical Advice

Nothing on Sanatio Research constitutes medical advice, psychological advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations for any individual. The content is for general educational purposes only. Always seek the advice of a qualified mental health professional with any questions you have regarding your mental health or medical condition. Never disregard professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you read on Sanatio Research.

Access & Email Updates

Sanatio Research is free to use — no account is required. Every title, citation, and published abstract is free; the full text of each study is hosted by its publisher, and some publishers charge for access. The platform is intended for adults 18 and older. If you subscribe to email updates, you agree to provide an accurate email address; you can unsubscribe at any time, and we reserve the right to remove subscriptions that violate these terms.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Sanatio Research for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to access other users' data
• Reproduce, distribute, or resell content from Sanatio Research without permission
• Use automated tools to scrape or extract content from the platform
• Misrepresent research findings from Sanatio Research in a way that could harm others

Provider Directory Listings

Clinicians may purchase a listing in the Sanatio Research provider directory as a recurring subscription ($19 per month or $190 per year, plus any applicable taxes). By purchasing a listing, you agree to the following:

• Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the Manage Billing option in your provider dashboard; cancellation stops future renewals and your listing is removed at the end of the paid period. Fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law.
• Your representations. You represent that you hold a valid, current, unrestricted license to practice in the jurisdiction(s) you list; that all information in your profile is accurate and not misleading; and that your listing complies with the advertising rules of your licensing board. You are solely responsible for keeping your profile accurate.
• Removal rights. We may suspend or remove any listing at our sole discretion, including for misrepresented credentials, license discipline, or content inconsistent with the purpose of this platform. Removal for misrepresentation does not entitle you to a refund.
• Advertising, not referral. A listing is paid advertising. It is not an endorsement, referral, partnership, or guarantee of visibility or client volume. Sanatio Research does not verify listings before publication and is not a party to any relationship formed between you and people who contact you through the directory.

For directory visitors: providers list their own credentials. Verify licensure with the provider's state licensing board before beginning care.

Intellectual Property

The peer-reviewed research indexed on Sanatio Research — including every title and abstract — is the intellectual property of its respective authors and publishers, and is reproduced here for indexing and discovery. Sanatio Research does not publish its own summaries of that research. The platform design and original content are owned by the operator.

If you submit an article or other work for the From the Field section, you retain ownership of your work. By submitting, you represent that you have the right to share it and grant Sanatio Research a non-exclusive license to link to it, excerpt it, and display it with attribution to you. You may withdraw a published submission at any time by contacting us.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Sanatio Research is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the library is complete, accurate, or current. Research in this field evolves — some findings may be superseded by newer studies.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of Sanatio Research shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including reliance on any research summary for personal health or clinical decisions. Your use of Sanatio Research is at your own risk.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of California.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
