Who We Are

Sanatio Research is a free-to-use research library that aggregates peer-reviewed studies on topics including compulsive sexual behavior, betrayal trauma, and relationship recovery. Sanatio Research is operated by a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Sanatio Research is not a clinical service and does not provide therapy, counseling, or medical advice.

Information We Collect

No account required: Sanatio Research does not require an account, login, or registration. You can browse the entire library without providing any personal information.

Email updates (optional): If you choose to subscribe to research updates, we collect your email address and the research topics you selected — solely to send you those updates. You can unsubscribe at any time. We deliberately do not ask, and do not store, anything about your own situation: the only preference we keep is which research areas you want to hear about, never who you are or why you are reading.

Clinician submissions and directory applications (optional): If you submit an article or apply for a provider directory listing, we collect the information you provide (name, credentials, contact details, and — for directory applicants — license number and state). License information is used solely to verify licensure and is never displayed publicly. Directory billing is processed by Stripe; we do not store payment card details.

Usage preferences: We store your selected "lens" (Recovery, Partner, or Clinician) and any saved studies locally in your browser via localStorage. This information is not transmitted to our servers.

Usage data: We may collect anonymized data about how the platform is used (pages visited, features used) to improve the experience. This data is not linked to your identity.

AI content disclosure: We do not publish AI-written summaries or interpretations of research. Each study appears with its published title and the authors' own abstract. AI (Claude, by Anthropic) is used only behind the scenes, to screen incoming studies for topical relevance and assign topic tags; a licensed clinician reviews what is added to the library. We do not use your personal data to train AI models.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Send research update emails you have requested
• Personalize your research feed based on your lens selection (stored on your device)
• Improve the platform and content

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third-party advertisers. We do not use your health-related preferences for any purpose other than personalizing your experience on Sanatio Research.

California Privacy Rights (CPRA)

As a California resident, you have the right to: know what personal information we collect and how it is used; request deletion of your personal information; opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information); and non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

Health-related information (including lens preference) is treated as sensitive personal information under CPRA and is used only to provide the service you requested.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. The only personal information we hold is the email address and preferences you provide when subscribing to updates; everything else stays in your browser.

Cookies and Local Storage

Sanatio Research uses browser localStorage to store your preferences (lens selection, saved studies) locally on your device. We do not use third-party tracking cookies for advertising, and there is no login session to maintain.

Children's Privacy

Sanatio Research is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has subscribed to email updates, please contact us and we will promptly delete the subscription.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify email subscribers of significant changes. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
