Evaluation the Psychometric Characteristics, Factor Structure Stability, and Measurement Invariance of the Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder- Diagnostic Inventory (CSBD-DI) Among Iranian Samples
Abstract Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) was recently included in the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). However, there is a notable lack of valid and concise measures for assessing CSBD in non-WEIRD contexts, such as Iran. This study aimed to validate a culturally sensitive and succinct inventory for CSBD within Iranian society. A convenience sample of 1,058 participants (78.3% female, 21.7% male) was recruited, all of whom were married and provided informed consent. The research employed the Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder-Diagnostic Inventory (CSBD-DI) in both 9-item and 7-item formats. Psychometric evaluations included descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analyses, bootstrap analyses for factor stability, and confirmatory factor analyses to establish construct validity. Reliability was assessed using Kuder-Richardson 20 (KR-20) and Coefficients Omega metrics. Findings indicated a single-factor structure with strong fit indices, particularly for the 7-item version. The 9-item version exhibited superior reliability and IRT test information. Notably, gender differences were observed. Men showed higher mean scores (9-item version) and greater construct variance (both versions) compared to women. Additionally, significant gender differences emerged in error variances for items 1, 2 (both versions) and item 9 (9-item version). Overall, the CSBD-DI demonstrated robust construct validity and reliability for measuring CSBD in Iranian society while highlighting significant gender considerations.
