A gestalt approach to sexual compulsivity
Abstract Gestalt therapy is a natural fit for the treatment of sexual compul-sivity, because the sine qua non of gestalt theory is awareness or connection, whereas the hallmark of sexual compulsivity is a lack of awareness or disconnection. This article provides an overview of gestalt therapy and demonstrates how it can be an effective tool in the treatment of sexual compulsivity. The gestalt concepts of awareness, perception, experiment, and polarity are discussed. A case study illustrates their practical application; Using gestalt methods, a breakthrough was achieved.
